Woolhampton Summer Concert

An Inspired Evening - Summer Concert 30th June St Peter’s Church, Woolhampton

Wonderful weather, fantastic food (many thanks to Ritchie from the Blade Bone for providing extravagant and delicious canapes), light and velvety wines plus an enthusiastic and animated audience.

How could this concert not be a success!

We started with a vocal arrangement of Barber’s Adagio bursting into O Fortuna from Carmina Burana. This was certainly a surprise and the faces of the audience showed rapt interest from then on.

We sang the first two movements of Vivaldi’s Gloria followed by Bach’s Lobet Den Herrn. The audience joined in with Jerusalem and then we had a bright, funny and somewhat disturbing rendition of Poisoning Pigeons in the park. Ave Maria by Jenkins was followed by a setting of Pi to 100 places which Daniel wrote.

Sarah Carley then stunned the audience with She Used to be Mine (available on You Tube as her husband filmed it from his mobile phone whilst holding a sleeping child!). Mozart’s Ave Verum and Dies Irae, Jenkins Laudamus Te and a rousing rendition of The Rhythm of Life (complete with audience participation) led to the audience and choir combining to sing Thine Be the Glory with a descant written by Daniel.

This blissful, fun filled, family friendly concert ended with You’ll Never Walk Alone which was then sung again as an encore!

We have to say that we have never heard an audience join in with such good voice and it was one of the most uplifting occasions ever!

From one of our usually quite harsh critics:

I feel compelled to email you about last Sunday’s performance by the Enharmonic Choir. The choir sang with such richness of tone and the SATB balance I felt was perfect – it was as if I were listening to the ultimate choir. I loved the variety of the evening too. So good to see that you’ve still got your magic and wicked sense of humour. Do let me know when your next concert is.

Thank you to everyone who helped raise £1500 for the Woolhampton Church Spire Fund.

We thought that you might like to know a little bit about us! We have been married for 31 years and have 3 grown up children and 1 grandchild.

Daniel has always taught music and together  for 7 years we ran the Music Department at Elstree School until deciding to teach and run course from home a few years ago..Originally Sandra trained as a nurse and was a Theatre Sister (many years ago now!).

Daniel teaches the piano mostly but also music theory, A Level and GCSE music. He also plays the organ and runs Enharmonic Choir. Currently he is also working in the Downs School helping with their A Level Music.

Sandra helps with all the above as well as teaching singing and piano. Until just recently (for almost 20 years) was Chair of Directors of the Kennet School Academies Trust and is now starting to enjoy having a little more time for her love of art and cooking!

Both of us have current enhanced DBS checks.

Parent Feedback

Maddy gained distinction in her grade 5 theory exam - 90 marks. She is thrilled, needless to say, and so are we.

We are very happy to have found Soundscool and Alex would be in no way ready for his exam without you. It is pleasing to discover something on the internet which is as good as it claims to be and he has had a wonderful time!

We have just got Alexander's results.... 94%! Thank you so much for all you did for us..he knew nothing of Grade 5 theory before October half term. You prepared him very well. We are so glad we found you!

The boys really enjoyed their time with you and felt totally enthusiastic about the whole experience. They both loved your approach and the warm welcome you gave them, and were up bright and ready for day two without prompting.

"For our son music theory was something to dread before coming on your course, but now he is so confident and he has found inspiration in understanding the theory behind the music he plays. His organ teacher has noticed the difference in his understanding, so this experience has enriched him and helped him beyond just the exam."
